June 8-12
Monday: Windows delivered. Taper arrives mid morning -just one person, not a crew (he was sent on another job first). The area for the under-stair storage is cut out and the framing support for the cabinet boxes added.
Tuesday: Windows are not the Wood Clad we ordered – the label says they are but they’re Ultra (all Fiberglass). As we’re painting, we’ll keep them to avoid more delays. The screens are all missing; one window is missing a handle and the top awning in the shower window is frosted instead of clear! Not happy.
Taper arrives at 7:30 ready to go – same guy. Apparently we get just one guy for the week instead of a multi-person crew. We should be OK with the painters schedule, apparently. Another hard worker and Greg says he does careful and high quality work.
Bonus room fireplace gets the vent tube inserted but the cap requires a longer ladder than anyone had to reach it.
Wednesday: Taper is here at 7:10 so I let him in to get started. Remaining windows in master bathroom installed. What a difference from when we moved to the house in 2000. Take a look at the evolution of the back of the house over 15 years.
Get a reply back from the window company that shows the order said fiberglass (Milgard Ultra). I sent back some detailed info about what I recalled and that I had shown the sales rep the invoice from their company for the new skywall window so we could match the specs on that.
Thursday: The window sales rep checked his notes and said that they matched my recollection. He had written down Wood Clad for everywhere but the shower stall – the admin who typed up the order made a mistake and he didn’t catch it…
They are swapping out the frosted awning window in the shower for a clear glass one as they can do that without taking the window out (there’s some casing that can be removed to permit that) – doing at no charge to apologize for having messed things up (you should have seen Jeffrey’s face when I passed on that explanation…)
Cabinetmaker stopped by to look at the storage under the stairs and my plans for it – taking measurements and discussing options (such as that I didn’t want them built on site as it’d cost a fortune). He also discussed trim details for the bonus room bookcases and a/v cabinets.
To get the coat of mud (goop put over all the seams and imperfections in the drywall) to dry we have these huge fans to circulate air (our project manager is apparently certified in airflow management – who knew there was such a thing?) The fan noise and vibration is intense – great that we can eat outside as it’s lovely and warm. Both kids say the noise and vibration, even through closed bedroom doors, makes it feel like they’re on the Millenium Falcon!
The new vent for the bonus room fireplace got its cap (so now it can rain). Dump truck took away the piles of stuff in the bonus room and from the deck.
Friday: Fans apparently did a great job and the mud from yesterday was dry – so more goes on today.
Taper will work Saturday. Monday he’ll sand and Tuesday the texture crew will be here. Painters will get moved again (but are apparently being very understanding)
Rest of the exterior trim installed around the bathroom windows
Saturday: Drywall taper worked most of the day to finish up with mud so it can dry for sanding on Monday
