June 1-5
Monday: Sheetrock guys didn’t show until about 11:30am, then only brought in materials and papered the floors. Under two hours and they were off!
Other odds & ends: Various areas needed a stud for the drywall screws. Insulation for every stud bay from which it had been removed. Anything next to the walls had to be pulled away.
In talking with Greg, the drywall company is trying to juggle too many jobs and they’re over-committing and under-delivering. It’s not the crew’s fault, but the dispatching process and crappy communications (i.e. outright lying to the general contractor). Frustrating…
The painters have to be delayed every time the drywall/taping/texturing process is pushed back. The interior window trim can’t go on until the texturing is done but the windows will get installed next week when they arrive even though normally that’d be after the texturing was complete – just to keep things moving.
Tuesday: Sheetrock guys went to another job first, then worked from about 1pm to 5:30pm. When they’re here, they work their butts off.
Wednesday: Sheetrock guys were even later today…but bonus room is done. Holes are cut for the bookcase inserts. We can only have six as there’s electrical wire that would have to be moved to do the others on the wall to the left of the fireplace. At this point, don’t want the extra shelves enough to pay to move wiring (again).
Thursday: Sheetrock crew talked their boss out of sending them to two other jobs before ours and they arrived at 10am and finished the work. Support framing for bookcase inserts
Friday: Tapers didn’t show. GFCI for the heated floor in the hall bathroom blew and wouldn’t reset. Electrician came to diagnose at 11:30. Floor has to come up as wire is damaged. Probably the glass installers put drill or screw through the tile when putting in the channel on the right that holds the glass panel. Aaargh!! Time to practice my inner calm…
