August 24-28
Monday: Bonus room bookcase inserts. Under stair cabinets. Upstairs network outlets connected while we were away but the network doesn’t function (cable modem was connected to switch instead of Airport Extreme)
Tuesday: Air switch for garbage disposal installed. Speaker wires for front left/right family room speakers pulled (something needed to tidy this up). Tried to switch dimmers for over-the-bar ceiling lights but the “dumber dimmer” caused all sorts of flashing when dimming. Ordered two of the electronic dimmers which have a neutral wire as they should eliminate the flashing in the bonus room ceiling light and the always-on state for the over-the-bar lights.
Wednesday: Painting touch ups, Sherwin Williams rep visited. Caulking, drywall patching. Shelves the bonus room side of both under eaves storage spaces were installed (plans called for both sides but only one was built).
2pm customer service walkthrough. Dave suggests replacing the family room cabinet doors & drawers and having KCN cabinets paint them with lacquer. Also suggested having KCN paint a test strip to judge color match. Talked about wrong location of speaker wire (front left/right) in bonus room.
Front left and right speaker wires have no plates and are next to fireplace vs. at either end of the wall. The original plans for network, electrical and speaker outlets clearly included this and had left/right speakers at either corner of the room.
Walking across the bonus room floor I stepped on something sharp and cut my right big toe – I pulled a small piece of glass out. Dave checked and there were more. Greg said Tim had mention he’d broken a light bulb – and apparently done a terrible job of cleaning up. Fortunately I bled on the carpet mask not on the carpet, but I’m not happy about either breaking glass there or failing to clean up (and failing to tell me about this so I could check other than by stepping into it).
When Dave checked under the master bathroom sink there was a small wet patch on the cardboard under the P trap. I had checked under the sink after I first used the faucets, and have checked every time since then and it’s been dry. Neither Dave nor Greg could find anything in the pipes that was wet.
Asked for additional shelf for trapezoid a/v cabinets. No fixed shelves (as would make sense at the end of the straight-sided part) so need two adjustable ones. Not happy with how these were built. New shelves to have gap at rear for cords/plugs.
Glass is scheduled for installation Tuesday September 8th
In the evening the hall bathroom floor got up to 74 and was at 70 this morning. It’s not what the program says it should be, but it’s not completely off – and no GFCI faults so far.
Thursday: Found more glass on the bonus room carpet (items to left of the staple, above), along with a staple – at least this time I didn’t step on it and cut my foot. Wrote a note to Westhill about cleanup.
Greg nailed the coat closet shelves to the cleats and worked on the under-stair pullout cabinets. He was out for 3 hours at the other job site.
One side cabinet of the half bathroom downstairs had mis-aligned holes for shelf supports. Greg drilled one set of aligned ones (and I can drill more should I want to move the shelf). Not happy at such sloppy work, but don’t want the cabinet remade or an insert made (which would shave off usable storage space).
Drywall patching around the master bathroom skylight completed (courtesy of the loan of our tall ladder…)
Friday: KCN cabinets delivered various missing pieces – center door for under stair pullouts, hamper door for master bathroom, drop-down desk door for bonus room, extra shelves for a/v cabinets.
Greg: paint touch up, drywall touch up, under stair cabinet nailing and gluing. Moving out…
